Jimmy Herring, has been diagnosed with stage one tonsil cancer. Can you believe it? This shocking revelation means that the band has had to cancel their highly anticipated three-night run in Asheville, NC, set for July 25th–27th, 2024.

In a heartfelt social media post, the band shared, “The Widespread Panic Family is sad to report that our Brother, Jimmy Herring, has been diagnosed with stage 1 tonsil cancer. He will begin treatment immediately and is expected to make a full recovery. That part we’re happy to report. The Band will not be playing the upcoming Asheville dates. We will have a clearer picture of our future concert schedule in the next few days.”
Fans are undoubtedly devastated by this news, but there's a silver lining—Jimmy is expected to make a full recovery! Widespread Panic's tour is set to resume on August 22nd–24th in Boston, their first visit there in nearly a decade. And let's not forget their other big dates: the annual Las Vegas trip from September 20th–22nd, three sold-out nights in Milwaukee from October 25th–27th, and a Halloween bash in Savannah, GA, on November 1st and 2nd.

The band ended their announcement with a message of gratitude and hope, “We thank everyone for their concern and Blessings as Jimmy and his Family go through this healing process. Let the Healing begin.”
This news hits particularly hard for long-time fans, as Herring joined Widespread Panic in 2006 following the death of founding guitarist Michael Houser from pancreatic cancer in 2002. Since then, Jimmy has been a vital part of the band, contributing to four studio albums, including this year’s "Snake Oil King," and playing countless shows over the last few decades.
